At the start of the evening, City stopper Schmeichel completed 90 minutes for Denmark to help them strengthen their 2018 World Cup qualification bid with a 4-1 victory in Armenia.

Denmark fell behind in Yerevan, but a hat-trick from Thomas Delaney and Christian Eriksen’s first-half strike helped Schmeichel’s nation to three points.

The 1992 European champions round off their campaign in Group E next month with fixtures against Montenegro and Romania.

City's No.8 celebrates for the Super Eagles.

Meanwhile, Ndidi started from the off, Iheanacho came on in the second period and Ahmed Musa was an unused substitute as Nigeria earned a 1-1 draw against Cameroon in Yaoundé.

The Super Eagles, with the help of an Iheanacho strike, beat Cameroon 4-0 on Friday, but couldn’t hold onto their lead on Monday night as Porto frontman Vincent Aboubakar cancelled out an effort from Gent’s Moses Simon.

Nigeria now sit top of World Cup qualification Group B, six points ahead of second-placed Zambia, who face Riyad Mahrez and Islam Slimani’s Algeria on Tuesday.

At Wembley Stadium, Jamie Vardy was an unused substitute as England came from behind to beat Slovakia 2-1 to move five points clear at the top of Group E.

Slovakia took the lead with three minutes on the clock through Stanislav Lobotka, before Tottenham’s Eric Dier and Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford were on target in the capital.

Defender Harry Maguire did not feature for England, who next face Slovenia on Thursday 5 October before a trip to Lithuania.

Johnson lashes in against the Netherlands.

Finally, young City defender Darnell Johnson, who scored in the Young Lions’ 3-0 victory over the Netherlands on Thursday night, was an unused substitute for England Under-20s during their goalless Euro Elite League draw with Switzerland in Winterhur.
