Okazaki, who replaced Leonardo Ulloa in the second half, opened the scoring in the 65th minute before City cemented their supremacy as Islam Slimani struck from distance late on.

“Maybe we had a good motivation,” the Japan international told LCFC TV at full-time. “But as players [in the first half] we played a little bit defensive and Liverpool were more offensive.

“In the second half, the manager wanted more pressure and I tried to do that. It’s a good result and a good performance today. I have made a good start to this season, I feel fit.

“I need to keep going for the team and for me.”

Okazaki, 31, was also delighted to see Slimani find the net in front of a full house at King Power Stadium, and he heaped praise on his Foxes colleague at full-time.

“Islam has good quality and, if he has more confidence, he will score more goals like this,” he said.

“I am fit this season. I try to put on pressure for the team and there is good competition for the striker positions and I will try my best.

“I have a different style to Slimani, [Kelechi] Iheanacho, Ulloa and [Jamie] Vardy. I try to work for the whole team.
