New signing Fousseni Diabaté and Kelechi Iheanacho bagged braces for the Foxes at the ABAX Stadium before Wilfred Ndidi’s 92nd minute strike prolonged their unbeaten run to six.
City’s reward is a place in Monday’s fifth round draw and, after playing for an hour, Academy graduate Barnes expressed his pride at clocking up another first team outing.
“We’re all delighted with the performance,” he told LCFC TV. “There were a few changes in the team but I thought the boys played really well and got the performance we deserved.
“We knew that we needed to [start strongly]. [Peterborough are] a good side, they can play good football so we knew a good start was needed.
“Cup games need a different approach. Anything can happen in the cup so we had to focus and be on-task. That was definitely mentioned before the match and we applied it.”
This month, Barnes was recalled early from a successful loan spell with Sky Bet Championship outfit Barnsley and the 20-year-old took the opportunity to reflect on his progress so far.
“I think the six months at Barnsley was really valuable to me,” he added. "I’ve learned a lot, as I did last year when I was on loan [at MK Dons], and then it’s been really good stepping back into it.
“I’m feeling a lot of confidence from the manager [Claude Puel] and hopefully I can repay that faith in me when I get another chance in the future.”
While Puel may opt to revert to a more experienced line-up for Wednesday’s trip to Goodison Park to tackle Everton in the Premier League (7:45pm kick-off), Barnes remains focused.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen on Wednesday but to get through to the next round in the FA Cup is the main thing for us today,” the Countesthorpe-based midfielder continued.
“It’s going to be a very difficult game [against Everton], everybody knows that. To be going there on the back of a great win today gives us confidence.”
