Against Newcastle last time out, the Foxes found themselves two goals behind, following strikes from Jonjo Shelvey and Ayoze Pérez, ultimately rendering Jamie Vardy’s 83rd minute as a mere consolation.
Despite pressing Rafa Benítez’s Magpies, Chilwell admits that City could have done more in their pursuit of an equaliser on a disappointing afternoon on Filbert Way.
Speaking to LCFC TV at full-time, the left back said: “It just didn’t fall our way. I’m not sure of the stats, but I think they probably only had two shots and scored both of them.
“That shows at the moment things are going against us – when a team has a chance, they seem to score.
“It’s not an excuse, but it’s just how it is and we need to make sure that we limit those chances that other teams get and you know, when we get chances, make sure we be more clinical.
“After the first half we knew we had to come out in the second half and give a bit more and try and break them down by playing a bit quicker.
“They were difficult to breakdown, we found that in the second half again. We had some chances, but we did find them difficult to break down and I think that showed."
As an Academy graduate himself, Chilwell was delighted, however, to see Development Squad captain Hamza Choudhury continue his first team education.
The 20-year-old central midfielder was called upon unexpectedly in the 42nd minute when Vicente Iborra was forced to leave the field with a hamstring complaint.
“He did very well, he’s a great player,” Chilwell added. "He does a good role when Wilfred [Ndidi] is out the team in terms of tackling and breaking up the play, it’s what he’s good at.
“I’ve played with him a lot of years now and he’s always been good at that. It’s nice for him to come on and do well personally, so I’m sure he’ll be happy with how he did.”
City next head to Turf Moor on Saturday 14 April in an attempt to close the gap on seventh-placed Burnley, who sit six points clear of the Foxes.
Chilwell added: "We’ll go there confident. We’re still confident, we’ll have a good week’s training and we’ll go there confident that we can win the match and close that gap and still try and push for seventh."
