City’s next challenge arrives in the form of a clash with former Foxes manager Claudio Ranieri’s Fulham at Craven Cottage on Wednesday night.
Puel knows the London outfit will be eager to bounce back from their 2-0 defeat by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
But, with City unbeaten in their last six outings in all competitions, they have reason to be positive heading into the fixture.
“In training sessions we continue to try to develop counter-attacks and to play also set attacks,” Puel told the media before Wednesday’s fixture.
“I said before the game [against Watford], I want my team to have the ability to play against any opponents with a different style of play.
“Some teams come for example at home with a strong defensive unit, and strong blocks. It’s always difficult to find space and we need to be patient to find a solution and to work this team.
“Other teams try to press us, like Watford, or to play direct play first time and after to win the second ball on the opponent’s pitch.
“After, they try to play good football. I want my team to have this adaptation against a new opponent, with the ability to play in set attacks with technical play and quality in the good moves.
“Also, the possibility to make counter-attacks with quality also. It’s not counter-attacks with long balls, direct balls and battles. No, it’s counter-attacks to play football, to take space with quality. I like this.”
Puel was quizzed about Aleksandar Mitrović during his pre-match press conference, as the Fulham striker aims to add to his 13 goals for club and country this campaign.
“He’s an intelligent player,” added the Frenchman. “He doesn’t move a lot but in the box he’s very clinical. Always, he has a good touch and a good move, a little fall to find a situation! Yes, he’s very, very interesting. He’s a character also, he has personality.
“They have a lot of players. I have also two former players from Nice with [Maxime] Le Marchand and Jean Michaël Seri, he plays very well. They are technical players. He (Seri) has fantastic assists and he reads the play very well.
“They have a squad with a lot of technique and quality. I think in these two first games, Claudio [Ranieri] brought them a togetherness.
“They fight, they are a block in defence, they are strong together. With the quality of the squad, it’s a good balance. They had two good last games.”
