Leicester City were 2-1 winners over Stoke City at King Power Stadium on Saturday
Second goalscorer Patson Daka was thrilled to play his part in the success
He paid tribute to his team-mates and the togetherness in the group
We head to Southampton in the Sky Bet Championship on Tuesday
Stephy Mavididi’s stunning opener, a rocket which ricocheted in off the crossbar – was doubled by Daka’s deft flick before Bae Jun-Ho got one back for the Potters.
Coming after another 2-1 success at Norwich City before the international break, it’s now six points from six for Martí Cifuentes’ men, who are one point away from the Sky Bet Championship play-off positions.
Daka hit the back of the net for the first time in 25/26 and spoke of his joy to help the team get another win in the bag and paid credit to his team-mates at full-time.
“Apart from being tired, to be honest, I’m over the moon,” the Zambia international said. “I’m really happy for the team.
“I think we needed this victory because, looking back, I think we have struggled when he come back from international breaks. This was really good for us.
“We needed to do everything we could to get the three points. It’s the mentality we have developed now. We’re running and fighting for each other.
“We’re trying to do as much as possible to make each other’s job easy. It doesn’t matter if you’re a striker or a defender, you have to run for each other and play for each other.”
Daka also revealed the goal, teed up by Abdul Fatawu and ending with a dinked finish over Stoke goalkeeper Viktor Johansson, was down to regular work on the training pitches. The action continues quickly for the Foxes, who tackle Southampton at St. Mary’s Stadium on Tuesday before entertaining Sheffield United on Saturday.
“It’s something I’ve been doing a lot in training,” he explained. “I think I did it with the goalkeepers and they hate it! They always complain about it but, after I scored today, they say: ‘Okay, you can keep doing it!’
“It was the option I saw was best for that moment. I just trusted my instinct and it went in. It’s been long since I felt like this to be honest.
“I’m just looking forward to hopefully building on this. It’s just nice to see how excited and happy the group is. That is very important for us.
“We’re supporting each other and making sure we stick together as a team. We’ve only got each other so we just need to keep fighting for each other and make sure we make each other’s job easier.
“We know how big a week this is. We just have to forget about this and look forward to the next one. We’ll never play this game again. We have to look forward to the next game and make sure that we don’t dwell too much on this game.”
