Tuesday night’s fixture at the New Lawn was our third in the competition’s group stage and having lost out to both Braintree Town and Wealdstone, it was vital to pick up points in Gloucestershire.
A bright start saw us seize an early advantage through Jake Evans, fresh from signing his first professional contract at the Club on Monday, to make it three in two games for the exciting young forward.
A neat City move led to the ball finding its way to the 17-year-old on the right and he did the rest, though we weren’t ahead for long. Robbie Savage’s side responded almost immediately via Nick Haughton, who diverted Yahya Bamba's cross into the bottom corner.
A trip to face Boreham Wood is coming up next month.

In a goal-laden opening half, Toby Onanaye sent a strike past Rovers ‘keeper Fiachra Pagel on 17 minutes, ensuring we went into the break ahead. Jose Marquez restored parity with 20 minutes to play, heading home from a corner to send it to spot-kicks.
Goalscorer Onanaye was also the hero from 12 yards, netting the decisive penalty to earn us a bonus point. We now have two points and sit seventh in Group B, with leaders Boreham Wood up next on Tuesday 25 November (7pm GMT kick-off).
Before then, it’s back to Premier League 2 duties this Saturday, hosting Southampton at LCFC Training Ground (1pm BST kick-off).
The details…
City: Bausor, Aluko, Daniels, Gray, Khela (Diallo 76’), Cover, Evans, Onanaye, Popov (Motsi 77’), Donnelly (Golding 80’), Briggs (Richards 77’).
Unused subs: Donohue, Ali, Otchere.
Goals: Evans 9’, Onanaye 17’.
