Wood: Step Up And Be Counted

With a huge npower Championship clash against Nottingham Forest beckoning, Chris Wood says he will be doing all he can to help his side secure victory on Saturday.

To be in with any chance of securing a play-off place, Nigel Pearson’s side must beat their east midlands rivals at the City Ground, and hope that Bolton fail to win against Blackpool, but Wood is concentrating on the Forest fixture first and foremost.

“It’s a must win game for us. As players we’re going out there to get all three points and that’s the minimum we need,” said Wood.

“I think we’ve just got to stick together as a team and make sure we get the right result through team work and a good performance.

“We just need to make sure we do our own thing, win the game, and as long as we do that, we’ve done all that we can.

“It’s a game for someone to step up and be counted and write their name in the history books.”

Wood, a January signing from West Bromwich Albion, has netted 11 times in his short spell at King Power Stadium, which helped him to the Championship Player of the Month award in January, and he admits that he’s happy to be back among the goals heading into Saturday’s match.

He added: “I’ve got a couple of goals in the last few games, it’s nice to be back on the score sheet and hopefully I can get a few more this weekend.

“The manager has stuck with us these last few months and made sure we have played the way we’re capable of playing. We’d like to do it for him, but for the fans also. It’s a big derby match.

“Forest are a very tough, organised team and we all know that. They’re a great side, we’re just going to have to go one better than them.”
