Wood Delighted With Bolton Win

City striker Chris Wood has thanked the Blue Army for their support after helping The Foxes secure a vital 3-2 npower Championship victory over Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday night.

Wood’s first half penalty set the tone for a brilliant display as the New Zealand international went on to play a part in setting up both Lloyd Dyer’s and Jeff Schlupp’s goals.

The win moves Nigel Pearson’s men up into the final play-off spot with three games left to play, and the fantastic atmosphere created at King Power Stadium against Bolton will surely whet the appetite for the next huge home tie with Watford on Friday 26 April.

Wood told Foxes Player after the game: “The fans are brilliant, and they’re always brilliant whenever we play at home and away. It’s a great fan base here and it’s a great tribute to get the win for them.

“It gives us confidence going into the next game, and if we keep winning then we’ll move up places and take points off other teams.

“Three points was the thing we came to here for and it was a big game against Bolton but the lads showed great character to get the win.”

Crystal Palace are the next obstacle standing between City and a play-off place, with Nigel Pearson’s men now having a chance to leap-frog Ian Holloway’s Eagles when they meet at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

And after getting back on the score sheet with a penalty, Wood is confident that if City can reproduce the same kind of display as they did against Bolton, they can continue their play-off push.

On his goal from the penalty spot, Wood added: “I just picked my spot and kept to it, and fortunately enough it sent the goalkeeper the wrong way.

“The performances have always been there in the last four or five games I think, except for Barnsley. We’ve looked a little bit off sometimes but against Bolton we got the win through the performance.

“It took a lot for us to get back into it and we showed a lot of character, but luckily their goal was in the second minute and not in the 88th minute like has been happening lately, so we had a long time to get back into the game and Lloyd Dyer did brilliantly to change the match.

“It was definitely going to take another goal. We knew when we came in from half time that we’d have to go out there and find a third, and they came out to their credit, got their goal, put us under pressure but Jeff came up with the goods in the end.”
