Steve Beaglehole says the Leicester City Development Squad’s 5-0 win against Derby County on Friday afternoon was a rewarding experience for him as a manager.

City picked up their third consecutive victory in Premier League 2 at Belvoir Drive after Farrend Rawson’s own goal was added upon by a Harvey Barnes brace, Bartosz Kapustka's tidy finish and Layton Ndukwu’s late strike.

Following on from positive results against Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Reading, the Foxes are now unbeaten in four matches and Beaglehole says their hard work on the training pitch is beginning to reap its due rewards.

He told LCFC TV: “I’m thrilled to bits with the lads. They’ve worked really hard and stuck to the game plan right from the start.

“We said we wanted to play in their half and take the game to them. We scored first which gives you a good base to play from. There are three points I was pleased with.

“First was our execution of the game plan, we did that really well.

“Second was the influence of the experienced players, Matty James and Yohan Benalouane. It was great to see Matty back playing like we know he can, so I was delighted with that.

“Finally, I was delighted with the younger players, the scholars like Alex Pascanu and Darnell Johnson as well as Admiral Muskwu.

“To score five excellent goals and keep a clean sheet makes it an almost perfect day for us.”

City have come up against stern opposition in the Checkatrade Trophy and Premier League International Cup but Beaglehole says the experience has done his side good and will do so again in the coming months.

“When you’re playing games against different types of opposition, you would expect them to learn from those experience,” he added.

“We varied the tempo of the game, we pressed them at the right times. It is rewarding when you see that as a coach.

“You want to see the fruits of your training out on the pitch and we saw that today.”
