Christian Fuchs says Leicester City will continue to give everything for the cause following the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday evening.

A Marcos Alonso double, either side of the half-time break, was added upon by a Pedro strike 19 minutes from time to reinforce the leaders’ push for the Premier League title at King Power Stadium.

Fuchs, who played among a back three for much of the match against Antonio Conte’s men, admitted it was a tough encounter but says the Foxes will be ready to produce a positive response at Southampton on Sunday.

The former Austria captain told LCFC TV: “Obviously we’re disappointed. It was tough because Chelsea scored the first goal very early in the game.

“They are playing a really great season this year. Even after the first goal we carried on going and I think it was hard for them to break us, to find their chances. There wasn’t too many chances in the whole game.

“The second goal was the result of a set-play. I thought we were okay in the defence but we lost the game and we are disappointed. Chelsea haven’t needed a lot of chances, they’re just very effective in front of goal.”

Fuchs says the match could have had a completely different outcome had City managed to take their chances, something they have done with more regularity in the New Year.

He added: “We also had one or two chances where we could have scored a goal but the last pass didn’t find it’s man. Against a side like Chelsea this season, it’s hard to win when you don’t use those chances.

“A goal against yourself always hurts. It’s always tough to come back but we try to give everything, to close down and use at chances we have but it didn’t work out.”
