After battling to a Premier League point against Arsenal on Saturday, Robert Huth applauded Leicester City’s defensive performance at King Power Stadium.

The Foxes recorded a goalless draw against the Gunners to earn their first clean sheet of the 2016/17 campaign, while a flurry of chances at the other end could have seen them go on to win the game.

Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez both came close to finding the back of the net late on, but Huth believes his side can be happy with a point against one of the most talented attacking line-ups in the Premier League.

“It was a tough, fast game and we were unlucky not to win it at the end,” Huth told LCFC TV after the game. “We played a lot better than last week.

“The thing with the first game of the season is that you’re very unsure of your fitness and tactical awareness so it’s a little bit unfair to judge us on our first game. We did a little bit of work in the week to tighten things up and that difference showed.

“In the first half, it’s quite normal for the teams to test each other to see what their tactics are and that was very much the case in the first half.

“In the second half, it was very much game on and both teams tried to win it. I thought we had the better chances.”

Huth returned to the heart of City’s defence alongside skipper Wes Morgan for the clash with Arsenal, and the powerful defender reflected positively following his first competitive appearance since 1 May.

He added: “I feel good. It felt like ages as it ticked over from last season. It felt like months and month ago since I last played, but I’m glad I came through and I thought we did okay.

“You could see that if one of us didn’t track a player, there was another to cover them and that’s what we’re all about. It gives us a good platform for Swansea.

“A point is a point, especially after last week. It was very much a case of getting a point on the board rather than losing again.

“It sets us up well for next week. I think everyone came away feeling good about the performance. Hopefully we’ll have a good week’s training and hopefully pick up our first win.”
