A special series of fixtures against Birmingham City on Sunday saw the Club participate in Academy Awareness Weekend, as part of an initiative launched by Kick It Out and the Premier League.

The Foxes’ Under-10s, Under-12s, Under-13s and Under-14s age groups faced their midlands opponents to help celebrate the inclusive environments that both clubs promote.

After Leicester City’s first team promoted the Kick It Out campaign against Crystal Palace on Saturday, the Academy’s youngsters played their part by helping commit to a game free from discrimination.

Leicester City Academy Manager Ian Cawley said: “The Equality Inspires programme is an important part of our Academy education programme for players, staff and parents.

“At Leicester City we are committed to creating a positive environment for players, both on and off the pitch, which is free from discrimination and exclusion.”

The Equality Inspires programme delivers equality and inclusion training for everyone involved in the Academy, with incisive workshops promoting awareness to club staff, players’ parents and their guardians.

Troy Townsend, Kick It Out’s Education and Development Manager, added: “The first season of Equality Inspires was a great success with Kick It Out visiting 17 of the 20 Premier League clubs and delivering 72 workshops to over 1,200 people involved in the Academy structure.

“The clubs bought into the concept of Equality Inspires and we want to continue having a real impact on young players, many of whom will forge a career in the game in some capacity.

“It’s crucial that we provide them with the tools to understand the importance of equality and inclusion and discrimination.”
