Morgan's 88 Premier League Matches In A Row

When captain Wes Morgan was rested for Leicester City’s 3-2 triumph at West Ham United last weekend, it brought to an end a mammoth streak of 88 consecutive Premier League starts.

The 33-year-old City skipper has seen it all across that lengthy run of fixtures. Dating back to a at King Power Stadium on Saturday 13 December, 2014, it started during the Club’s first campaign back in the top-flight after 10 seasons away.

The ‘great escape’ from relegation that would shortly follow paid witness to seven victories from the final nine games of the 2014/15 season. It proved to be just the beginning for the Jamaican international, though, as Morgan would go on to play all 38 matches as City were crowned .

From a typically industrious display on the opening day of 2015/16, , to scoring vital goals against Southampton and Manchester United, the Foxes defender helped forge the foundations of a Premier League title success that would shock the world over.

This season, the streak has continued. Up until last weekend, Morgan continued to be ever-present for Leicester. At 88 games, his run in the City starting XI was the longest-running active spell of any Premier League player. Matt Holland, formerly of Charlton, holds the Premier League record for an outfield player with 115.

West Bromwich Albion’s Darren Fletcher (82) has now taken over in the race to topple Holland. But few would have begrudged Morgan a week to recover following his goalscoring exploits against FC Sevilla five days previously - which helped book a UEFA Champions League Quarter-Final place.
