Kasper Schmichel was typically modest in his analysis of Leicester City’s on Saturday afternoon following another stellar individual display.

The Denmark international, on the back of his , made a string of crucial stops to deny the Hammers a late equaliser as City secured their fourth consecutive win in all competitions despite a late rally from Slaven Bilić’s men at the London Stadium.

One save in particular, a point blank intervention to deny Andy Carroll in stoppage time, earned plaudits for Schmeichel but the 30-year-old shot-stopper instead elected to divert praise in the direction of defensive duo Yohan Benalouane and Robert Huth in the absence of skipper Wes Morgan.

Discussing the victory with at full-time, he said: “It was very, very tough in the second half but I think we did really well and perhaps some tiredness from Tuesday night showed a little. We managed to get three points which is three on the spin. It’s very important for us.

“It’s my job. That one with Carroll at the end you’ve just got to hope that he hits you and that’s what he did. We had a lot of tired legs out there but that’s where the mentality comes in. We’re a strong group missing our captain but I thought Yohan, with Huthy next to him, did really, really well. Brilliant.”

Schmeichel also pointed to West Ham’s qualities from dead-ball situations, something City had to contain in the capital, before looking ahead to the international break, when Denmark face Romania in a World Cup qualifier at the Cluj Arena.

“You know when you come to West Ham, they have good quality from set-pieces,” he added. “Obviously you’re disappointed to concede goals at any time but, particularly the second goal, we’ll have to have a look at it. I’m enjoying it. I’ve got an international game and I’ll enjoy that as well.”
