Leicester City’s Under-18s kicked-off their 2016/17 U18 Premier League campaign with a hard-fought victory over Brighton and Hove Albion at Belvoir Drive on Saturday 13 August.

In a frantic opening five minutes, Brighton hit the post, before Trevor Peake’s outfit went ahead just seconds later through Kairo Arlott-John.

It was Elliot Webber, who netted a double in the 6-1 victory over Brighton last term, that crafted the goal, as Arlott-John pounced onto his deflected delivery to fire in the only goal of the game.

“It was quite an even game over the 90 minutes,” Peake told LCFC.com after the victory. “They hit the post early on and we scored our goal within five minutes. It was quite an open start to the game with both sides having chances.

“There wasn’t many chances following that. Cameron Yates only had to make a couple of saves and it was similar for Brighton’s goalkeeper. Both sides’ defences were on top throughout the game.

“It’s the youngest side we’ve had on an opening day. We started with six Under-17s, so all credit to them. It was pleasing in that respect and it was great for the younger lads to be involved so early in the season.”

It is the young Foxes’ battling spirit that has most pleased Peake throughout pre season, as his side now prepare for next weekend’s league clash with Fulham at Belvoir Drive.

He added: “This year they’ve got a real hunger about themselves and a great work ethic. Their commitment and honesty in the harder side of the game, without the ball, is to be commended.

“That’s been evident in pre season. We started a little slow but we’ve really grown into it, so we’re looking forward to see how we do against Fulham next week.”
