A late strike from Kairo Edwards-John helped Leicester City’s Under-18s beat Norwich City 2-1 in the U18 Premier League on Saturday at Belvoir Drive.

It was the third of three consecutive home fixtures for Trevor Peake’s outfit, who beat Brighton and Hove Albion on the opening day of the season, before losing to Fulham last time out.

Elliot Webber put the young Foxes in front in the first period, before Norwich made it 1-1 after the break and threatened to score a second.

But it was City who would go on to win the game through Edwards-John, who netted his second goal of the 2016/17 campaign.

“It was quite an even game,” Under-18s manager Peake told LCFC.com. “We managed to grab a goal four minutes from the end through Kairo Edwards-John, who finished off a free kick situation well.

“I think it was a deserved win. We managed to go into the lead after about 20 minutes through Elliot Webber, which was very pleasing for him because he’s worked his socks off and that’s his first goal of the season.

“We dominated the game in the second half and should maybe have gone 2-0 up, but we ended up conceding with about 15 minutes to play.

“After that, we looked a little shaky and could have conceded one, but we recovered and managed to hit the final blow to win it.”

The victory moved City up to fourth in the U18 Premier League table ahead of their clash with West Ham United at Little Heath Sports Ground on Saturday 10 September (12pm kick-off).

Peake added: “The best we’ve played is the game we lost against Fulham, which shows that there’s positives to take from all our performances no matter the result.

“We’ve won two out of three and we play West Ham next. West Ham are notoriously a strong outfit. They push players through and have had a great academy over the years.

“They’re really respected and I think they’ll definitely be the biggest test we have. They play a 4-3-3 so we won’t have as much possession in the other games.”
