U19s Match Preview: Leicester City vs. FC Copenhagen

Leicester City’s Under-19s continue their UEFA Youth League campaign against FC Copenhagen at Loughborough University on Tuesday. 

The young Foxes have been narrowly beaten in their opening two Youth League fixtures, having lost 2-1 to Club Brugge in Belgium, before a 2-0 home defeat to FC Porto followed last time out. 

City face an FC Copenhagen side that were beaten by 4-1 by FC Porto in their first fixture, while a goalless draw against Club Brugge in Denmark followed in late September. 

A win on Tuesday could see Leicester close the gap on second-placed Club Brugge to just one point, depending on their result against FC Porto. 

Steve Beaglehole said ahead of the game: “We’ve played Club Brugge and Porto so far and I think with my experience at Northern Ireland of playing Scandinavian teams, Copenhagen will be very well organised. 

“I’d expect them to be very passionate and they will have some very strong athletes. If they’re going to get through the group, they’ll want to get some points on the board. They’ve got one point out of six so far, so they’ll be quite eager to win. 

“We’re improving and we’ll be getting one or two players back from injury, so we’ll be able to field a strong side on Tuesday. 

“We played very well in the second half against Brugge and Porto were very difficult to play against, so we can take a lot from both of those games and our players will learn from that experience.”
