Steve Beaglehole says the Development Squad’s display during the 2-1 Premier League International Cup victory over Liverpool was nothing short of outstanding.

The Foxes fell behind just before half-time, when Harry Wilson put Liverpool in front with a powerful header from close range.

But City were ruthless in the second period and rounded off their Premier League International Cup campaign at St. George’s Park with a win courtesy of two fine strikes from Layton Ndukwu.

“It was an outstanding performance,” Beaglehole told LCFC TV. “I’m delighted with them today I’m really proud.

“We had an injury early on to Matty Miles, who was a big part of our game play. Elliott Moore came on and he played unfamiliar central midfield role, but did exceptionally well.

“I thought we got stronger and stronger in the first half. We had three or four fantastic chances, but they put a great ball in and scored, so we went in 1-0 down.

“That was hard to take as we played well, but our heads didn’t drop and I thought Yohan [Benalouane] – the senior player in there – was great with them. He was encouraging the lads all the time.”

Ndukwu fired in an equaliser five minutes after the break, before an exceptional effort saw the England youth international score from inside his own half.

Beaglehole continued: “We were superb in the second half – that’s the best second-half performance we’ve had this season. We had some outstanding play and of course Layton Ndukwu’s goals were brilliant.

“The first one was a great finish from a terrific counter attack from Barnesy (Harvey Barnes). He’s hit it cleanly across the ‘keeper.

“His second goal would have graced any league, there’s no doubt about that. It was an unbelievable goal. Flare players can do things like that and we’ve always known we can.”
