Pearson Reflects On Tough Afternoon

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson has backed his players to improve after a below-par display saw them beaten 2-0 by Swansea City in the Barclays Premier League at Liberty Stadium.
A goal in each half from Ivory Coast international Wilfried Bony sealed all three points for the hosts, and despite the Foxes setting up in a attacking shape with four changes, the manager felt they made things hard for themselves.

City showed improvements in the second half until Bony’s second strike took the wind from their sails, but Pearson isn’t getting too down ahead of an important home game at King Power Stadium against West Bromwich Albion next weekend.

Pearson told Foxes Player at full-time: “We didn’t manage the ball well enough today. That’s really the root cause of today’s problems. We were sloppy in possession, and as an attacking force, even though we’ve got an attack-minded formation, we were unable to utilise that because we just did not use the ball well enough in all areas – from back-to-front.

“We wanted to be positive today, but it makes it more difficult when you’re having to defend for long periods because we kept giving it back to them. That was disappointing today.

“The goals weren’t particularly good goals to concede, and the danger is to focus on the goals you concede. Ultimately what we didn’t do as a creative force is show the quality that we’re capable of, and it’s important that the players reflect on that.

“The second goal from Swansea made it really difficult to bounce back straight away. It was a poor goal in the sense that we’ve got to do better, but there were too many unforced errors in the build up.

“That is something that again we reflect on and the players have to be honest with how they look at their own performances. I don’t see any reason to be overly negative. I know what the players are capable of; it’s just an illustration of how difficult it is to operate successfully in what is a very tough league.”
