Leicester City’s Under-18s were narrowly edged out by a single goal away to Reading at Hogwood Park in the Barclays U18 Premier League on Saturday morning.
The Foxes, who fielded a young side that included several first year scholars, performed well throughout the 90 minutes against an in-form Reading team that had beaten Bolton 3-1 on opening day.
Trevor Peake’s side started the match brightly, but will have been disappointed to go in 1-0 down at half time after conceding from a set piece.
Reading’s Liam Kelly swung in the corner, which was glanced into the net by big defender Dom Hyam to give the Royals a one-goal lead that they were able to hold on to until the final whistle.
Next up for City is a return to Belvoir Drive Training Ground on Wednesday afternoon when they will test themselves against Aston Villa (KO 2pm).
