Konchesky: Return A Delight

Leicester City defender Paul Konchesky admits life back the Barclays Premier League has been better than he first expected on the eve of his side’s clash with Crystal Palace on Saturday.
A fans’ favourite, Konchesky has notched up over 300 appearances in England’s top flight and will certainly look to add to that with the Foxes this season.
Returning to the capital city he was born in at the weekend, the former Liverpool and Tottenham left-back reflected on the reasons he signed for City, with the ambition of the Club the stand out factor.
Speaking exclusively to Foxes Player, he said: “It was a massive factor (playing Premier League football). I signed under Sven-Goran Eriksson and at the time the Club wanted to be up in the first year or two.
“It’s taken a bit longer but I’ve been lucky enough to be here and be part of it – I’ve seen the Club grow bigger in stature and we’re back where we belong.
“I’ve enjoyed every minute of it – it’s been better than I thought.
“It was obviously a tough start but the group we’ve got here has made it easier – we work hard together – long may it continue.
“It’s been a great few days to be honest but we’re professional people and we have to get over it quick because we’ve got another big game coming up Saturday.
“You enjoy the time and the moment but we’ve had a week now to concentrate on the Palace game.”
Nigel Pearson’s men travel to Selhurst Park on the back of two consecutive wins after victories over Stoke City and Manchester United.
After breaking down the left wing and setting up Leonardo Ulloa to score the winner at the Britannia Stadium two weeks ago, Konchesky is aiming to make it three victories on the bounce, but knows that the Eagles’ hunting ground is not an easy place to go to.
He continued: “It’ll be a tough, feisty game – they’re probably like ourselves in the sense that they work hard.
“They’ve had a great result at Everton but I think if we can put our work ethic in and pass the ball like we do we can come away with the three points.
“It’ll be 100 miles per hour because their stadium is small and tight and their fans get behind them but our fans also get behind us.
“We’re both the so called smaller teams in the Premier League so we need to work hard to get the points.”
After three seasons out of the Premier League, Konchesky feels he is much more experienced, crediting Pearson for his development as a player.
He added: “This time around there’s a lot bigger players, maybe better players and a lot more money.
“I think I’m more experienced. I’ve learnt certain things from the last time I was in the Premier League.
“Being with the manager here and being a defender has obviously helped me through.
“I’ve got more experience now and hopefully I can pass that on.”
