U21 Reaction: Eaden Looks To Kick On

Leicester City Development Squad coach Nicky Eaden hopes his side can kick on with their season following a 1-1 draw with table-topping Chelsea at King Power Stadium on Saturday.

The young Foxes trailed at the break through a goal from Isaiah Brown but Gary Taylor-Fletcher equalised to earn City their first point of the 2014/15 Barclays U21 Premier League campaign.
Happy with his side’s performance, Eaden believes today’s efforts have the potential to boost the squad, having being disappointed with the opening three league defeats.
Speaking exclusively to Foxes Player after the draw, he said: “After the first three games we needed to get a positive result on the board which we’ve done today against top of the table Chelsea.
“Today was a real turn around and we’re hoping we can kick on a little bit and reproduce those type of performances.
“More pleasing than the point was the manner of the performance.
“The first league games were really disappointing not just results wise but performance wise.
“It’s going to be difficult to replicate last season’s run because we’re playing the top teams week in, week out now.”
And Eaden also praised the impact of the four first team players that featured, explaining that it’s sometimes a gamble to include them in an Under-21s game.
He continued: “They’ve had a massive influence today – we had Tom Lawrence, Nick Powell and Fletch along with Marc Albrighton.
“You’re never sure sometimes when you get the first team lads dropping down.
“At other clubs it’s been the case where they don’t really help you out but today they’ve been a massive help.
“They gave us that bit of quality and I’ve got to say that the work rate was fantastic from them.”
Impressed with Callum Elder and Ben Chilwell on the left-hand-side of his back four, he added: “The pair of them were excellent – Chilly is feeling his way into Under-21s football – that’s the second game for us and he’s coped no problem.
“Callum played slightly out of position – he’s played there for the youth team but not played there for us – and again he stuck to his task well and showed some good quality on the ball and defended really well.”
