Determined GTF Ready For Premier League

Leicester City striker Gary Taylor-Fletcher is hoping his versatility can help him play a key role for Nigel Pearson’s side in the Barclays Premier League this season.
The 33-year-old former Blackpool hitman has impressed in pre-season so far, and even scored the winning goal against Everton in Bangkok on Sunday night to underline his claims for a spot in the team.

Having previously spent time playing in the top-flight with the Tangerines during the 2010/11 campaign, Taylor-Fletcher is keen to show that he still has what it takes to succeed at the very highest level.

And despite being a striker by trade, it’s his ability to perform all over the pitch that Taylor-Fletcher feels stands him out, telling LCFC.com: “I think the gaffer knows he can play me in midfield in a three too, but one of the things with having me on the pitch is that I can play in a number of positions and he can change the formation quite easily.

“If and when I get some games, I’ll try my best and I’m looking to show people that even at 33, I can still handle it.

“I might not be able to run or do some of the other things that people can do, but I do bring something different and it’s good for the manager to have.”

It’s now two wins out of two so far in pre-season for City, with a 1-0 win over Everton coming on the back of a 6-1 victory away at non-league Ilkeston FC earlier this month.

While the focus is on fitness and match sharpness for the squad, Taylor-Fletcher is looking to carry the momentum of a positive pre-season into the league campaign on 16 August.

He added: “It’s a good start for us [against Everton]. The pitch was sticky when trying to pass it and the ball was getting stuck under people’s feet. But sometimes you’ve just got to lend the ball and get it back.

“Against a good Everton team, we tested ourselves. I think it shows us a few things that we need to work on for the kick-off.

“Everyone cruised through 45 minutes and when we get back we’ll be looking to step it up and get a bit longer and get more distance in our legs.

“It’s good preparation and to win is nice, it keeps that run going. Sometimes you come up from the division below and win a lot of games, and that can drag you through those first few games. That’s a good mentality to have.”
