Bittersweet Debut For Simpson

It was an afternoon of mixed emotions for Danny Simpson on Saturday after making his debut in a 2-0 Barclays Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
The summer signing from Queens Park Rangers entered the fray as a second half substitute for Ritchie De Laet, but couldn’t prevent the Foxes going down to just their second defeat of the league campaign against Neil Warnock’s side.

In a tight game it was City who had the better chances to take the lead through Jamie Vardy and David Nugent, but the Eagles struck early in the second half from two set plays – Fraizer Campbell and Mile Jedinak grabbing the goals.

Speaking to Foxes Player after the match, Simpson said: “It’s mixed emotions. I’ve been itching to get on the pitch since I signed. The team have been doing fantastically and I’m happy to get some minutes to show the manager and everyone a little bit of what I’m about. But we lost and it’s not nice to lose, it’s disappointing so again it’s mixed emotions and we go again.

“I think the game, how it panned out, we expected it and we spoke about it before the game. They sit deep, the fans get behind them and it’s a tough place to come.

“You've got to be careful about set pieces. I think that’s the disappointing thing really, that we spoke about the set pieces and we’ve conceded from two. I think we had some great chances to be honest, and on another day you go 1-0 and 2-0 up and it’s a different story. Last week we took our chances and this week we didn’t.”

Despite his short spell with the group so far, Simpson is adamant that the team will be looking to learn from the Palace defeat and bounce back as soon as possible, adding: “I think with the manager we’ve got and the staff we’ve got, we’re always looking to analyse and improve.

“It isn’t always about the positives, you have to talk about the negatives as well and learn from them. That’s what makes the team improve, so I’m sure that’s what the manager will do this week. We’ll look at it, we’ll learn from it and we’ll improve.

“Every day in training, whether it’s the lads that are starting, the lads that are on the bench or the lads that are trying to get involved, everyone gives 110% on the pitch. I think that’s a good base for us doing well this season. Everyone demands hard work from themselves and each other and that’s why we are a good group of players.”
