Albrighton Encouraged By City Character

After an excellent display in the 1-0 FA Cup success over Newcastle United at the weekend, Marc Albrighton hailed the character within the Leicester City squad.
The winger replaced Esteban Cambiasso as a first half substitute and went on to cause the Magpies’ back line endless problems with a committed and high quality performance from the flank.

Game time has been hard to come by in recent weeks for the 25-year-old, with Riyad Mahrez and Jeff Schlupp in fine form, but he did his chances no harm at the weekend as the Foxes booked their spot in the fourth round.

“They’re the games that you’ve got to be looking to get results in,” Albrighton told Foxes Player. “You’ve got to show a lot of character and we did that. They’re the games we’ve got to be on top in.

“It was tough and it was scrappy at times, but the main thing was to get through to the next round. We’ve had a tough month but we’ve come out of it with credit and we’ve picked up a good couple of results in the league and now we’re in the hat for the next round.”

Albrighton admitted that it was a surprise to be called upon so early in the game, as he replaced Cambiasso, but it was an opportunity he was determined to take.

“I’d done the warm-up before the game but not during the game, so it was a bit of a surprise coming to be coming on, but you’ve always got to be ready mentally to come on and affect the game.

“It’s obviously good to play and to be given a chance. I feel like I’ve come out of it okay, and hopefully I’ll get a run of games. That’s not quite materialised so far but hopefully this time I can get a couple of games on the back of this.

“It’s totally down to the manager. Since I’ve come here I’ve been trying my hardest and trying to get in the team. For whatever reasons that hasn’t happened so far, but if the manager decides to put me in now, I’m ready.”
