Banning Order For Football Fan

A football fan has been issued with a banning order after throwing a missile onto the pitch after a game.

Daniel Storer, 21, of Newbold Verdon, was arrested and charged with throwing a missile towards the playing area at the Tottenham Hotspur vs. Leicester City FA Cup match on Saturday January 24, 2015 at White Hart Lane.
Following Leicester’s late winning goal he was seen to throw a smoke grenade onto the pitch.

He appeared at North London Magistrates Court on 16th February 2015 and pleaded guilty to the offence. He was issued with a three year football banning order and a fine.
Force Sports Liaison Officer Alistair Grimsley, said: “There has been an increasing trend in the use of pyrotechnics amongst Leicester City football supporters this season, particularly when travelling away from home. Unfortunately some of these devices burn at a very high temperature and can cause panic and respiratory problems, especially among those who suffer from asthma.
“This sentence highlights just how seriously these offences are taken by the courts.”

The banning order prevents Storer from attending any designated football match. He will also have to surrender his passport to the police whenever the England national team play a fixture abroad and inform the Football Banning Order Authority of any change of address.
A spokesman for Leicester City said: “The welfare of supporters is the Club’s highest priority and we will continue to work with Leicestershire Police and other relevant authorities to prevent supporter safety being compromised. The Club has a zero-tolerance approach to the use of flares, smoke bombs and pyrotechnics of any kind and supports the issuing of bans in any incidents of this nature.”
