In an exclusive first interview, latest Leicester City signing Yohan Benalouane explained how happy he was to join the Foxes.

The central defender signed a four-year contract with the Club – subject to international clearance and Premier League and FA approval – joining for an undisclosed fee from Serie A side Atalanta on Monday.

Benalouane became City’s second signing of the week following the addition of midfielder N’Golo Kanté, and having taken an extensive look at King Power Stadium and Belvoir Drive, he was suitably impressed with the Club’s facilities.

"My first impression is very good,” Benalouane told Foxes Player HD. “In this city and in England, the most important thing is football. I’m very happy to be here. I hope I can do my best in this team, because I’m very, very happy to be here.

“For me it’s a new experience because it’s different to Italy. When I was young, I liked England because I wanted to play in England for my experience.

“I’m very happy to be here. I hope I can do my best and use my experience in Italy. In Italy it’s more tactical. If I give power and tactics to this team, I think I’ll give something important.”

A powerful centre back who has played in both France and Italy, Benalouane went on to explain what the Blue Army can expect when he dons a City shirt as he hopes to provide some strong competition among the City defence.

He added: “My favourite position is central defender. I like to play with the ball and control my defence. For me, it’s my preferred position. I’m a player with power and I have technical quality. I hope to use this at Leicester.

“I’ll do my best this week in training. In Italy the season starts later. I worked hard while I was on holiday and also in training, so I hope I come to the first match as a possibility.

“I spoke with Claudio Ranieri. I’m very happy to work with him. For me and for everyone, he is a very big manager. He told me it’s different to Italy because it’s very high-impact. Now, I hope that I can have a great season.”
