Competition Thrills King
- Academy graduate says he is enjoying the good level of competition in the squad
- Leicester City conclude their pre-season campaign at Birmingham City on Saturday
As Leicester City continue to prepare for the upcoming Barclays Premier League season, midfielder Andy King says there is a good level of competition in the squad.
The Foxes open their 2015/16 campaign against Sunderland at King Power Stadium on Saturday 8 August – a fixture that will be manager Claudio Ranieri’s first competitive game in charge.
King has had productive pre-season, notching 45 minutes against Lincoln City, half an hour against Mansfield Town and a full 90 minutes against Burton Albion on Tuesday.
City conclude their pre-season schedule with a trip to Birmingham City on Saturday, and the Academy graduate says he hopes he can impress, should he be involved at St. Andrew’s.
“I’m confident. It is just about playing your game, listening to what the manager wants and trying to put that on to the pitch," King said.
“We have still got good competition for places out there. It is up to us to do enough in pre-season to get the nod.”
A total of 23 players took part in City’s fixtures against Burton and Rotherham this week, and King believes the spread of game time across pre-season has been beneficial for the entire squad so far.
He added: “We are doing it step by step, and I am sure by the first game of the season, we will be ready to go.”
