De Laet Surprises Youngsters On Community Course

Leicestershire school children were treated to a visit from Leicester City star Ritchie De Laet as part of a community football course on Tuesday.

The Belgian right-back attended LCFC Community Trust’s Easter Football Coaching Course at Lutterworth Soccer Centre, Hall Lane, Lutterworth.
Over 50 children got to meet the City defender before learning techniques to help improve their heading, shooting, dribbling, team play, turning and passing.
Each youngster received a medal and certificate for participating, while a number of lucky children won special competition prizes.
Enjoying the experience of interacting with children from the local area, Ritchie told Foxes Player: “It’s the second year in a row that I’ve come down at Easter. The coaches are great with them. We’ve been doing some passing drills and playing some games, so it’s all good fun.
“It’s great for us to see the kids enjoying it and it gives them the opportunity to ask us questions. It’s good for them to come here over the Easter holidays and play some football.
“It’s great to get involved with the local community like this. A lot of them were here last year, so it’s good to see them coming back and enjoying themselves.”
Community Coach Adam Martin echoed Ritchie’s comments, explaining that the presence of a professional footballer heightened the experience for many of the children in attendance.
Adam said: “In the morning the boys started off with a lot of ball mastery skills, then we moved onto some small games before a lot of technical work.
“After lunch, Ritchie came along to say hello to everybody and took part in a session as well. It was fantastic. The kids didn’t know which first team player was going to come down, so it’s a really good surprise for them.
“It also gave them the opportunity to take part in a session with Ritchie. It’s fantastic because he’s one of their idols.
“The standard is fantastic. Some of the kids that we see here come onto out Satellite Centres and some have even gained places at the Club’s youth Academy.
“Not only is it great for them to come along and have a chance to play football, they can come down and make lots of new friends while encouraging them to maintain a healthy lifestyle.”
