Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater made his third appearance for England at the Stadium of Light on Friday evening, helping the Three Lions beat Australia 2-1 in an international friendly.

Donning the no.8 shirt, Drinkwater completed 90 minutes as Roy Hodgson’s men continued preparations for their Euro 2016 campaign.

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford gave England the lead on his debut with just three minutes gone with a neat finish from close range.

Drinkwater then saw a shot of his own blocked just after the quarter-hour mark, before substitute Wayne Rooney doubled the Three Lions lead after the break.

Australia pulled one back with 15 minutes to play after Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier turned the ball into his own net, but England stood strong late on to earn their second consecutive 2-1 victory.

The Club’s international involvement could continue later this evening, when City skipper Wes Morgan’s Jamaica face Chile in a friendly.
