Drinkwater Reflects On Burnley Battle
The strike came less than a minute after Burnley’s Matthew Taylor saw a penalty hit the outside of the post, and despite Drinkwater’s undoubted joy at the win, he was quick to highlight just how tough it was against a Burnley side full of spirit and fight.
“It wasn’t an easy game,” Drinkwater told Foxes Player. “We knew it wasn’t going to be an easy game because it was high intensity and it was full of running.
“But we made sure we more than matched them and came away with the three points. “They got a penalty and missed the penalty, then straight away Marc Albrighton crossed it in, it got a deflection and luckily we managed to put the ball in the back of the net.
“We were able to put them on the back foot from there on. I think they were struggling after that. They kind of went more route one, and that suited us with the big lads at the back. Hats off to the lads, we all put in a shift and that was just what was needed.”
It’s a fourth win on the bounce for City, and one that lifts them up to 17th in the table. Not since 1966/67 has a Leicester City team won four straight top-flight games in one season.
While that’s a record Drinkwater is pleased with, he insists his focus remains on securing the next victory.
He added: “Since I’ve been at the Club we’ve broken quite a lot of records. If we can carry on doing it then brilliant. It’s a Club all the lads love playing for and I’m sure we can all carry on.
“The hard work is still to come though. The manager knows that we (the players) know that. He installed that in us from early on. The lads, with how we are, we know what we’re capable of, but we need to keep our heads on it, keep focused and make sure that we complete the targets that we were set.”
