Foxes To Defend Hong Kong Soccer Sevens Plate
Leicester needed to win their final group game against fellow Barclays Premier League outfit Newcastle United to qualify for the Main Tournament, but despite creating a number of chances, they lost the tie 1-0.
City finished third in Group A, and now face a quarter-final clash with HKFA Under-18s on Sunday as they start their defence of the Hong Kong Soccer Sevens Plate, having won the trophy last year.
Reflecting on his side’s results, Nicky Eaden, who took the team, told LCFC.com: “In the first game, we played BC Rangers, who ended up doing very well by topping the group. In this competition, if you don’t take your chances, you end up getting punished. They’ve had one chance and they’ve taken it.
“The first goal is vital. Once you concede you get teams sitting back against you, which makes it very difficult to break down. As it’s only seven minutes a half, you don’t get a lot of time to respond.
“In the second game we were comfortable, winning 3-0, but we went into the final group game against Newcastle having to win it. It was a pretty even game. They had a couple of chances and we’ve hit the bar, so it’s fine lines, really.”
