King Power Stadium Marks World Diabetes Day

King Power Stadium shimmered in a special shade of blue this month to mark World Diabetes Day – helping local charity Silver Star to raise awareness of a condition suffered by millions.
The Football Club joined the Leicester Mercury headquarters in taking part in the Blue Monument Challenge, which has seen over 1,000 monuments and buildings brought to life in a beautiful blue.

It is estimated that around three million people in the United Kingdom suffer from diabetes, with a further 850,000 unaware that they have the condition – 24,000 of those die from causes that could have been avoided through better management of their condition.

This year Silver Star Diabetes sent mobile units to Leicester, which resulted in 360 people being tested for the condition, while on 14 November, MP for Leicester East and Founder Patron of the charity, Keith Vaz, joined other MPs in taking part in the No Sugar Day Challenge.

Silver Star’s mission is to raise funds that help to increase awareness of diabetes in Leicestershire and nationally.

They run mobile diabetes assessment units that travel to local community groups, places of worship and workplaces to provide free diabetes assessments for all while raising awareness of the condition.
