Leicester City's Aussies

After the addition of Australian goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer this week, LCFC.com takes a look at some fellow Aussies to have pulled on the blue shirt...
Steve Corica

- Midfield

- August 1995-February 1996

- Appearances: 18

- Goals: 2

The skilful midfielder joined Leicester City in the summer of 1995 after a successful early career in Australia, but was signed by former City boss Mark McGhee for Wolves the following season. Spells in Japan and Australia followed for Corica before he hung up his boots in 2010.

Zeljko Kalac

- Goalkeeper

- September 1995-August 1996

- Appearances: 2(+1)

A goalkeeper standing at almost 6ft 8ins tall, Kalac is best known by City fans for bring brought on as a substitute in the final minute of extra time in the play-off final against Crystal Palace in 1996 by Martin O’Neill. The manager thought that because of his height, he’d have a better chance of saving penalties, although Steve Claridge’s late winner meant he wasn’t needed. Since leaving the Foxes, Kalac played for Roda, Perugia and AC Milan - where he won the Champions League in 2007. He is currently a goalkeeping coach at Sydney FC.

Danny Tiatto

- Midfield

- July 2004-July 2007

- Appearances: 70 (+3)

- Goals: 3

A popular midfielder who captained the side during his three-year stay, Tiatto was known for his all-action and committed style of play. He joined City after spending six years with Manchester City, and left only for Queensland Roar [later Brisbane Roar] in his native Australia. In total he played 23 times for Australia at international level, and retired from playing at Werribee City in 2012.

Paul Henderson

- Goalkeeper

- June 2005-August 2009

- Appearances: 74(+13)

Another Australian stopper, Paul Henderson played almost 100 times for the Foxes over a four-year period, which included City’s League 1 winning season under Nigel Pearson in 2008/09. Following that campaign, Henderson returned to Australia with Newcastle Jets, and currently plays for Sydney Olympic.

Patrick Kisnorbo

- Midfield/defender

- July 2005-July 2009

- Appearances: 133(+7)

- Goals: 11

Another member of Nigel Pearson’s squad to win the League 1 title in 2008/09, Kisnorbo was a powerful defender that was a big threat from set plays. He joined the Foxes from Hearts under Craig Levein and stayed until 2009, when he moved to Leeds. Following a four-year spell with the Yorkshire side he returned to Australia to play for Melbourne City.

James Wesolowski

- Midfield

- Academy 2003; Pro Sept 2004-June 2010

- Appearances: 30 (+28)

After graduating form the Club’s Academy, Wesolowski had a promising start to life as a Leicester player, but a series of unfortunate injuries that slowed his progress. He regained his form with loan spells in Scotland before eventually leaving the Foxes for Peterborough in 2010. Three years at Oldham Athletic followed before a switch to Shrewsbury in the summer of 2014.
