Match Preview: Burton Albion vs. Leicester City

Read a match preview for the pre-season friendly fixture between Burton Albion and Leicester City at the Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday 28 July, 2015 (7.30pm kick-off).

Leicester City play their first of three pre-season friendly fixtures this week as they continue preparations for the fast-approaching 2015/16 Barclays Premier League season.

The Foxes head to the Pirelli Stadium to face League 1 outfit Burton Albion on the back of a 1-1 draw against Mansfield Town on Saturday.

Striker David Nugent gave City the lead on 10 minutes with a fine curling effort that was cancelled out shortly after through Matt Green’s penalty.

The fixture provided Claudio Ranieri with the chance to yet again field 22 first team players as he gears up for his first term as manager at King Power Stadium.

With the help of Leicester City Development Squad striker Jacob Blyth, Burton Albion secured the League 2 title last season, finishing five points clear at the top of the table.

Tuesday's fixture will see the reunion of two big Premier League names. Current Brewers manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink enjoyed a fine four-year spell under Claudio Ranieri during their time at Chelsea between 2000 and 2004.

Signed from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2000, Hasselbaink went on to score over 70 goals for the Blues and earned himself the Premier League Golden Boot award in his first season at Stamford Bridge.

Preparing Burton for their first ever term in England’s third tier, Hasselbaink saw his side beat Championship outfit Birmingham City 2-0 on Saturday thanks to strikes from John Mousinho and Phil Edwards.

Speaking to Foxes Player HD after the draw with Mansfield Town, Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri said: “Mansfield were a better side than Lincoln, tough players that played strongly and it was important for us to play at the same speed.

"It was difficult for us to play football, but I like to see my team under pressure in pre-season. I want a big challenge, but I don't want any players injured, so I'm happy.

"I think it's important to give all the players the right level of stamina and that I watch everyone. Sunderland is very close and I have to choose a first eleven.

"I feel good, I feel confident and I know we need to work hard to keep the Club in the Premier League, but I'm very confident we can do that."
