McCourt: Early Goals Settled Us Down
McCourt curled in a fine opening strike with just six minutes gone, converting from 20 yards to get the Foxes off to a great start at Motspur Park on Saturday.
And just three minutes later, City doubled their lead. Jack Barmby’s pin-point cross from the left wing found Harry Panayiotou, who took a touch before side-footing in to make it 2-0.
A frantic spell at the end of the first half saw Fulham pull one back through Patrick Roberts before Jack Grimmer hammered Adam Smith’s crossbar.
But City regained their composure after the break and Anthony Knockaert rounded off the scoring from the spot with 18 minutes to play.
“It was a great win,” McCourt told Foxes Player. “We knew coming to Fulham would be a tough game after the form that they’ve been in. We know what we can do because we haven’t been beaten for a while, so it was a good victory.
“We’ve been working on quick play and counter attacks all week, so it was good to get the early goals. It helped us to settle down.
“I’ve been working hard in training on my shooting, so I’m made up to get a goal. It’s about time I got on the scoresheet!”
City’s Under-21s have enjoyed their last three away trips, having drawn at Tottenham Hotspur and beaten both Manchester City and Fulham.
With a trip to Chelsea on Friday 6 March (7pm kick-off) up next for City, McCourt added: “You know what to expect from Chelsea. They’re a massive side – one of the best in the country. We’re going to go there hoping we can win.
“We’ve all been working hard in training, improving on the things that we need to work on. We’re five games unbeaten now, so we just need to kick on next week.”
