Moore Makes England Under-18s Debut

Rising Academy star Elliott Moore took another big step in his progression on Wednesday after his international debut at centre-half for England’s Under-18s against Russia.
The youngster – who was an integral member of the Academy side that reached the FA Youth Cup Semi-Finals last season – played the full 90 minutes on debut for his nation, as they were edged out 2-1 in stoppage time.

After a bright start, the Young Lions went behind against the run of play on eight minutes, as Russian skipper Georgi Melkadze capitalised on a loose pass to fire in an unstoppable effort.

Moore did well to meet a Luke Amos free kick in the first half as England increased the pressure, but he saw his powerful header saved by the Russian goalkeeper.

Liverpool’s Sheyi Ojo then won and converted a penalty in the final 10 minutes to seemingly salvage a deserved draw, but Russia’s Poliboy Arinov scrambled the ball home from a corner deep into stoppage time to earn his nation the victory.

Having been involved with the Club since the age of since and joining the youth ranks at the age of nine, Moore is just one of a long line of promising youngsters to have their Club form rewarded with recognition at international level.

The likes of Ben Chilwell, Layton Ndukwu, Darnell Johnson and Admiral Muskwe are just a few names from City’s talented Under-18s group to have represented their countries in recent times.

Despite defeat for Moore and England on this occasion, there were plenty of positives to take from what will have been another great experience from an impressive season for the youngster.
