Peake: A Pleasing Result

Leicester City Under-18s manager Trevor Peake applauded his players for bouncing back from three straight defeats to beat Reading in the Barclays U18 Premier League on Saturday.
The young Foxes, who lost 3-0 to the Royals at Belvoir Drive in January, registered a 2-0 victory on the same soil thanks to a double from striker Keenan King.

It was City’s first win since their stunning comeback against Brighton and Hove Albion last month, and after having a number of goalscoring chances throughout the fixture, it was certainly a deserved three points.

“It was a pleasing result,” Peake told LCFC.com. “We mentioned our last fixture against Reading before the game. We didn’t really turn up that day, so we were happy to put the record straight.

“We changed our formation to a diamond to try and spice it up a bit and get more attempts on goal, which was the case certainly in the first period.

“Thankfully Keenan came up with his two goals – the second one was terrific and it was just at the right time as we were heading into the break.

“We talked to Keenan at half-time about him getting his perfect hat-trick and ironically, it was a header that he had his chance with early in the second half.

“He can hit the ball with great power from outside the box, and we haven’t got too many strikers who can score that sort of goal – obviously we have other players that have their own strong characteristics.

The game also saw Conor Anderson return to action for the first time this year at Belvoir Drive, coming on at half-time in place of centre-back Josh Knight.

Happy to see the youngster back on the pitch, Peake continued: “Conor’s been out for a few months now with an injury, which was a shame for him. Before he did it he was playing regularly and he was keeping Cedric [Kipre] out.

“It was great to get him back in there and get him some football because he’s been out for a while. He had 20 minutes last week, and he had 45 this week. He’ll be in contention for the starting line-up against Wolves next weekend.”

The young Foxes continue their U18 Premier League campaign on Saturday 2 May when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Belvoir Drive (11am kick-off).

Anticipating another challenging fixture, Peake added: “We’re yet to face Wolves this season, so it’ll be a new challenge, but it’s one that we’re very much looking forward to.”
