Pearson: It’s In Our Own Hands

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson says the outcome of Saturday’s Barclays Premier League game against Queens Park Rangers depends upon the performance of his own players.

The Foxes travel south to Loftus Road to face an Rs side that currently occupy bottom spot in England’s top flight, but Harry Redknapp’s men have enjoyed home comforts in recent weeks, first beating Aston Villa in late October before drawing with Manuel Pellegrini’s Manchester City earlier this month.
QPR are spearheaded by striker Charlie Austin, who has struck six times in the league already this campaign, and remains their most dangerous threat on the goalscoring front.
While Pearson is aware of the quality of this weekend’s opponents, the City boss insists that the result, as always, is in his men’s hands.
“We’ll have to play well – there’s no doubt about that,” said Pearson. “They’ve changed their style somewhat recently in the sense that they’ve simplified their game plan quite a bit, and they’ve got good players.
“As always, it’s about what we do ourselves. When you look at the table, the three sides that got promoted from the Championship last year – it’s not been an easy baptism – but all three sides are fighting very hard and we’ve got confidence in our own squad. It’ll be an important game for us as it will be for them.
“Last week’s result was not what we were looking for but I think we certainly played a lot more positively than we have done and created opportunities – unfortunately we weren’t able to take them.

“It remains something for us to improve on but last week’s performance was much more like we’re capable of.”
And despite not finding the back of the net in five Premier League attempts, Pearson believes that the onus of scoring should not fall solely on his forwards, insisting that creating more chances will see goals flowing again.
He added: “It’s not just about players not scoring. If you create enough opportunities, mathematically your players are going to have a better chance of scoring. I don’t think we’ve been as creative in recent weeks as we would have liked to have been.
“Having said that, going back to last week’s game, I think we showed the right intent and on another day would have won it, but that’s just how it is.
“For sure these games are important – there’s no doubt about that. Every game that you play you try and win them. I think there is more importance certainly on games where you are going to be playing sides who may or may not be around you – I’m not going to underplay that – it’s an important game for us.
“We’re going to have to play well – I’m sure they’re going to have a healthy respect for us as well. It’s important that we go there with the right intentions, and that’s what we’ll go with.”
