Pearson: There’s No Magic Wand

Manager Nigel Pearson was pleased with the performance levels from the side as a 0-0 draw with Sunderland saw them edge out of the Barclays Premier League drop zone.
The Foxes brought to an end a run of four consecutive defeats with a solid, determined and hard working display against Gus Poyet’s Black Cats – a tight game that could have gone either way.

There were plenty of chances created for City in front of the home fans, and despite them not getting the lucky breaks at one end, they defended well as a team to secure their second clean sheet of the campaign.

Speaking to Foxes Player afterwards, Pearson said: “It was frustrating for us not to have scored again, but in terms of chances created and working the goalkeeper, we’ve done okay today.

“I think the performance was pretty good and it’s a shame for us that we weren’t able to take all three points. I was very pleased with the application of the players and how we went about it.

“If we do that on a regular basis, the results will come for us. But there’s no magic wand, you’ve got to be able to go out and perform as well as you can. The players have done well today in terms of work rate and chances created.”

It was a close game against the Black Cats, but the Foxes still carved out openings for the likes of Matty James, Riyad Mahrez and David Nugent, and Pearson maintained his faith that the goals will start to flow soon.

He said: “We played pretty well without getting the breaks. Sometimes you have to accept that that is the way games will pan out. I did think we showed a desire and quality to try and win the game, but it’s not quite happened for us today.

“I can’t be too concerned with other people’s perceptions. Today was a lot more like what I know we’re capable of, we just need to convert our chances.

“We’ve done pretty well all season in terms of how we defended, but that’s only our second clean sheet. When you talk to Kasper, I’m sure he’ll be delighted with that, but that’s only half of the battle, you’ve got to be tight and be a threat. I thought we did that today.”
