Pearson: We Needed To Be Fearless
It was a win that leaves the Foxes ready to take advantage of any slip-ups in the relegation battle, as although they remain bottom, the gap is down to just three points with seven games of the season remaining.
Reflecting on his side’s sensational second half, Pearson told Foxes Player: “It needed to be [fearless]. When you’re in a situation like this, the players have got to have the freedom in their own minds to go out and play.
“There’s no point at this stage in the season going out there and coming off the field with regrets. It’s a lot easier to swallow a bad result if you’ve given everything.
“But if you give away points because you’ve not applied yourself well enough, then that’s hard to take. I think our second half performance is significant for that alone.”
Vardy’s winning goal capped an outstanding display from the entire City XI and it sparked wild celebrations in the stands, and the manager was delighted to be able to reward the fans for their loyal support.
“It’s nice to give the fans something to cheer about,” he said. “We’ve been supported very well at home and away this season. They’ve been incredible and we do need to give our fans some belief. Hopefully we can build on that.
“I think both Jamie [Vardy] and [David] Nugent do give you a lot of energy and as the game wore on and it became a little bit stretched. Their strengths can create opportunities. It was a good run and a good finish. I’m very pleased for Jamie but more importantly for us as a Football Club.“
