Wednesday’s behind-closed-doors friendly fixture against Stoke City at Belvoir Drive proved to be a worthwhile exercise, according to Development Squad manager Steve Beaglehole.

A Leicester City XI, comprised of a mixture of first teamers and Under-21s, beat Stoke in a friendly fixture that saw latest Foxes recruit Nathan Dyer net on his first appearance in Leicester blue.

Summers signings N’Golo Kanté, Yohan Benalouane and Dyer all featured, while Leonardo Ulloa, Marcin Wasilewski, Danny Simpson, Dean Hammond and Joe Dodoo got a run out as the majority of the squad prepare to represent their nations.

“We’ve got a bigger squad now so it was a nice game for some of the senior players to get some game time,” Beaglehole told LCFC.com. “It was good to see Nathan Dyer get his first appearance in a Leicester City shirt too.

“It was a good competitive game. I thought we dominated possession but we needed to be a bit more of a threat in the final third.

“The game was about getting some minutes for senior players, so it certainly proved to be a worthwhile exercise.”

A total of 10 senior players and a number of youngsters are set to report for their nations as the Club again sees a healthy representation on the international stage.

Beaglehole added: “The amount of international players that we have now is a great indication of how far the Club has come in the last two or three years. Over the period of time that I’ve been here, I’ve seen the Club grow.

“Certainly, Leicester City is making great strides forward, so it’s a very exciting time for everybody involved here.”
