As Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy stands on the brink of Barclays Premier League goalscoring history he has revealed just how much preparation goes on before each game.

Against Newcastle United last time out the England striker scored for the 10th consecutive league game and in the process equalled former Manchester United striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s Premier League record.

Now he has a chance to make it 11 against the Red Devils this weekend and make the record his own as well as keeping the Foxes at the top of the table with a victory.

The striker’s form has inevitably led to increased attention for Premier League defenders, and while he admits it’s a challenge, he revealed that there’s plenty of work that goes into the preparation for each team’s defence.

He told : “It’s always difficult but during the week in training you’ve just got to look at ways that can get me into my best positions and through on goal – especially if I’m up front.

“We concentrate on what their defenders are like. [Things like] if they’re going to come for a tackle and everything. We just have to put it into practice on a Saturday. As you can see with the weeks that we’ve been having and the goals it’s obviously working for us.

“[This week it’ll be] exactly the same as it has been every other week. I’ll be getting on that training field and looking at where I can possibly hurt their defence and get through on goal. Hopefully when it comes to game time I’ll be able to put all that into practice.”

Vardy’s fine form has seen him named in every England squad since the summer and he admitted that the experience has undoubtedly helped him to improve his game.

“It’s always going to,” added Vardy. “They’re the best players in the country and training alongside them can only make me better myself.

“Obviously watching them it can make me change slight things as well. It’s been brilliant. Hopefully I’ll keep the form up and that gets me in the next squad as well."
