Simpson: It Could Go Either Way

But with an array of world-class talent at their disposal, the current league champions will back themselves to bounce back against the Foxes, and while Simpson admits he doesn’t know how things will go on the day, he knows City will need to be wary of their wounded opponents. 

One thing remains consistent though, and that is City’s own preparations. He said: “Obviously everyone prepares the best we can for any game, but we know that Manchester City have great players and are a great team. 

“At the same time it’s nice to go to the Etihad and places like it because it’s why we’re in the Premier League and I’m sure the fans will be looking forward to it as well. For us, the manager will be preparing us the same as any other game.” 

Reflecting on the potential effect of Manchester City’s last two results, Simpson added: “It could go either way. It could make them think they need to put a performance in and get a good result, or make them feel a bit of pressure and we could get into them, put pressure on them and unsettle the crowd. It could go either way but we just have to stick to our game plan and do the best that we can. 

“They are a great team with great individual players, that at any moment in the game can do something magic and either set up a chance or score. 

“We know that and we know every player they have has to play at their best individually and for the team. They’re a great team and it’s a tough place to go, but we’ve got to do everything we can to stop their game and irritate them.”
