Soccer Sevens Daily Diary: Hamza Choudhury

Hamza Choudhury provides us with our final diary instalment, as the tough-tackling midfielder discusses his time out in Hong Kong with Leicester City.
The Foxes won the HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens Shield on Sunday afternoon after beating Hong Kong champions Eastern 3-2 in the final.

After defender Darnell Johnson had given City the lead, Choudhury made it 2-0 before the break after winning and converting a penalty.

Eastern hauled themselves level after half-time, but striker Admiral Muskwe fired in the winning goal with four minutes to play. Now, Choudhury gives us his verdict following the final day of action and talks of how his side had to show their spirit to bounce back to secure a trophy.

Name: Hamza Choudhury

Age: 18

Position: Midfield

Key attributes: Tackling, power, passing

It was a massive positive to win the Shield because we wanted to come out here and not come home empty handed. We knew that we could achieve something because of how good our team was. After losing so early in the day, we showed that we have character and that when it comes down to it, we can put in a performance.

That character is a massive thing to have and it runs all the way down from the first team and with that comes positive results. We’re taught to always put in spirited performance at every level at the Club and Beags (Steve Beaglehole) and Tucks (Chris Tucker) really enforce that too.

The buzz that people have for Leicester City out here is crazy and it’s really nice to have that support. Some of the lads that have gone to Hong Kong in previous years told me about it and it’s amazing to see so many people after our players’ autographs and taking pictures with us. How the first team has played this season has attracted more and more Leicester fans across the world and that really shows out here.

Going back to our first training session, it wasn’t nice because of the heat and the humidity obviously, but after training and playing six games in total, we’ve managed to adapt really well to pull though. It’s been a tough but enjoyable way to end the season and we all feel like we learnt a lot from the experience.
