U18s Reaction: Peake Reflects On Stunning Comeback

Leicester City Under-18s manager Trevor Peake says momentum was the key to his side’s Barclays U18 Premier League victory against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.

The young Foxes found themselves 3-0 down after strikes from Ragnar Mar-Larusson, James Tilley and an own goal from Michael Kelly.
But Layton Ndukwu curled in a superb effort on the stroke of half-time, reducing Brighton’s deficit to two goals heading into the break.
Keenan King powered in a header just after the hour mark before Danny Rowe turned in a loose ball to level the game up at 3-3 with 19 minutes to play.
Ndukwu, who had earlier initiated the comeback, then stabbed in Harvey Barnes’ deflected strike with nine minutes to go .
Speaking to LCFC.com after the game, Peake said: “It worked out well in the end. We gave ourselves a bit of a mountain to climb in the first half. We didn’t start well and all three of the goals that we conceded were disappointing, but we had to deal with that.
“It was really important that Layton got a goal back just before half-time to give us a bit of a lifeline and reduce their deficit. Brighton were very good in the first half.
“In the second half we gained some momentum and started well. We pressed Brighton and didn’t really let them out their half. The pressure told over the last 45 minutes and it was good to see the fourth goal go in.
“It’s funny how some of the momentum changes in some of the games at this age. We were delighted to get all three points.”
Peake’s outfit must also recover from a three-goal deficit in the FA Youth Cup Semi-Final Second Leg against Manchester City on Wednesday 8 April at King Power Stadium (7.45pm kick-off).
But if City can replicate the desire and resilience shown against Brighton, they stand every chance of becoming the first side in the Club’s history to make it to the final of the competition.
Peake added: “From Monday we’ll be focused on the Youth Cup. I’m sure the lads are aware that it’s just around the corner. We can start fully concentrating on it now.
“It’s still a while away, so we’ve got plenty of time to get ourselves in the best possible shape to compete against a very good team in Manchester City.”
