Barclays U18 Premier League action returned to Belvoir Drive on Saturday as Leicester City’s Under-18s were beaten 3-1 by a talented Arsenal side.

It was the second time this campaign that the young Foxes had faced the London outfit, having drawn 2-2 away from home back in October.

That game saw City recover from 2-0 down to earn an U18 Premier League point thanks to strikes from Kairo Mitchell and Harvey Barnes.

It was Mitchell – having scored against Blackburn in the Youth Cup last week – who went on to find the back of the net for the second time this season against the Gunners as the forward fired his side in front after 35 minutes.

But this time it was Arsenal’s turn to stage a comeback as they eventually went on to win the game 3-1 at Belvoir Drive.

Forward Yassin Fortune hauled his side level with three minutes of the first half to play, before goals from midfielder Savvas Mourgos on 52 minutes and forward Josh Dasilva on 86 minutes sealed three points for the Gunners.

Speaking to LCFC.com after the game, Under-18s manager Trevor Peake said: “Their side was similar to the one we played back in October. We coped quite well and had a couple of objective to improve like keeping the ball along the back line.

“We saw that in the first half and limited their opportunites. They only broke through as few times, one of which resulted in their goal which was shame because it was right before half-time.

“Kairo Mitchell scored first and we were in their box a few times and weren’t looking too bad. They took the momentum in the second half and scored again.

“We were still well in the game at that point and got into their box on a number of occasions. Their ‘keeper made a couple of saves and unfortunately they then scored from a free kick which killed the game off.

“While we’re third, the league is tight and a few teams have games in hand. All we can do is win to get into the top four, which is our ultimate aim.”
