Vardy Calls For Sunderland Focus
There have been plenty of encouraging performances, but it’s the results that have been going against them of late – meaning three points against Sunderland is of the utmost importance in front of the home fans at King Power Stadium.
It is an indication of how tight the league is that if the 18th placed Foxes win on Saturday, they would leapfrog Sunderland in the league, who sit in the relative comfort of 14th – just two points from the top half.
Speaking ahead of the game, Vardy said: “I think it’s going to be a very tight game, as are most of the games in the Premier League. I know they had that slip-up against Southampton, but since then they’ve turned things around and we know they’re going to be a threat, but we just have to concentrate on our own game.
“I’ve had a few days where I’ve been able to spend time with the family at home [over the international break], but obviously the ones who haven’t been on international duty have been in training and preparing themselves for the Sunderland game.
“We need to have a look at Sunderland’s strengths and weaknesses, concentrate on our own stuff and hopefully that’ll get us the three points that we need.
“You always want to make your home ground a fortress, and the fans always get involved with that and pick you up, giving you that extra gear that you need.
“It’s been difficult recently [for the strikers], but it’s been difficult all over the park. If we concentrate on ourselves and how we go about beating teams then we don’t think we’ll have any problems in picking up points.”
