Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy scored his third international goal in as many games on Sunday night as his late strike gave England a 2-1 win over Turkey in Manchester.

The fixture, England’s first warm-up game for Euro 2016, also saw City midfielder Danny Drinkwater come on from the bench to play a part in the victory – his second Three Lions appearance.

Vardy started the match alongside Tottenham Hotspur striker and former Leicester loanee Harry Kane, who opened the scoring in just the third minute before Hakan Calhanoglu levelled matters at Etihad Stadium soon afterwards.

Leicester man Vardy then won a penalty for the hosts as he dashed in behind the defence and tangled with Mehmet Topal – the referee pointing to the spot. Kane it was who stepped up to the 12-yard effort but it struck the upright and the match remained level.

That was until the 83rd minute, when Vardy instinctively rattled the ball home from close range after Gary Cahill’s header from a corner was spilled into a dangerous area.

Next up for the Three Lions is a friendly against Australia at the Stadium of Light on 27 May while the squad must be trimmed from 26 players to 23 by 31 May, with both Vardy and Drinkwater hoping to make the cut.

Vardy will not feature in the friendly against Australia after England manager Roy Hodgson confirmed that he will be given time off to get married.
